How to Breathe.. .
The way we breathe is a lot more important than you probably think. Some of the implications of mouth breathing that have scientifically proven include: • Snoring and obstructive sleep apnea, leading to poor recovery • Bad breath due to an altered bacterial population in the mouth • Mouth breathing can dry the tongue and gums, leading to tooth decay and gum problems • Dehydration • Lower sports performance because lungs can’t uptake as much oxygen In contrast, the benefits of nasal breathing include: • Nasal passages will warm and humidify the air you breathe which is especially important in cold weather • Nasal passages filter the air, removing significant amount of bacteria and particles • Keeps air in your lungs longer, increasing the amount of oxygen to your bloodstream • Nitric Oxide, which plays an important part in immune response, is released in the nasal passages following the air stream to the lungs.
